What are Sitemaps?
Sitemaps are an easy way for webmasters
inform search engines about pages on their sites that are available for crawling_
In its simplest form;
Sitemap
an XML file
that lists URLs for
site
with additional metadata about each URL (when
was last updated_
how often
usually changes, and how important it is, relative t0 other
URLs in the site) 50 that search engines can more intelligently crawl the site
Web crawlers usually discover pages from Iinks within the site and from other sites_
Sitemaps supplement this data t0 allow crawlers tnat support Sitemaps t0 pick up all URLS
in the Sitemap and Iearn about those URLs using the associated metadlara. Using the Sitemap prOtocol does not guarantee that web pages are included
search engines;
but provides hints for web crawlers to do
better job
crawling your site .
